Why Homeowners Consider Solar
You're already paying for power. Did you know that you could pay less?
You’re already paying for electricity every month. Solar panels for a residential home can help reduce how much power you need to buy from the utility, which may lower your overall energy costs over time.
That’s why we start with a simple question: Did you know you have a choice?
Does Solar Make Sense for Your Home?
Every Home Begins With a Different Story
Two homes on the same street can need very different solar systems. Before recommending a residential solar panel installation, we look at your electricity use, roof, sunlight, future plans, and what you want solar to do for your home.
Electricity Use
Based on your typical household energy usage, recent electric bills, or any available usage history.
Roof and Sunlight
Size, condition, orientation, and shade all affect production.
Future Plans
An EV, heat pump, roof replacement, or addition can change the design.
Your Goals
Lower your monthly costs, make your energy spend more predictable, or stay powered through outages. Your goals determine the right solar solution.
If solar makes sense, we’ll show you why.
How Much Solar Does Your Home Need?
We Start With Your Usage, Then Size the System Around Your Home.
We use your electricity use, your roof, and any future changes, like an EV or heat pump, to size the system around how your home actually uses power. That matters because residential solar energy works best when the system is designed around the property and the homeowner using it.
Will You Still Have an Electric Bill?
It depends on how much electricity your home uses, how much solar your system produces, and how your utility handles the power your system sends back. The goal is to size the system around your actual usage and what your roof can realistically produce.
Residential Solar Cost
What Would Solar Cost for Your House?
The cost of residential solar installation depends on your home, electricity use, system design, and if you decide to lease or own. We’ll show you the total cost, what solar could save, and payment options alongside what you’re already spending on electricity.

FAQs
Questions Homeowners Ask Before Going Solar
Convert Solar answers the practical questions customers ask before moving forward.
How Do You Determine What Size Solar System I Need?
Your solar system size is based primarily on how much electricity your home uses and how much solar energy your roof can produce. Factors like roof space, orientation, shading, and expected future energy needs also help determine the right system size for your home.
Do I need a battery with residential solar?
A battery is optional for residential solar. If backup power matters to you, we can include battery storage in your system design. Convert Solar offers home battery storage options for homeowners in Virginia and Maryland, including Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ Battery 5P, and Enphase IQ Battery 10C.
Will My Solar Panels Work During a Power Outage?
Grid-tied solar systems pause production during a grid outage for safety. Adding battery storage with the appropriate backup configuration gives your home access to stored power during an outage. Convert Solar provides solar and battery storage solutions for homeowners in Virginia and Maryland.
What residential solar incentives are available?
Available incentives depend on factors such as system ownership, utility, and current state or local programs. Homeowners may also benefit from SRECs when eligible. We will explain which programs apply to your system and ownership option.
What happens if I sell my home?
The solar system transfers to the new homeowner’s name when the home is sold. If you are planning to sell, give us a call so we can help with the transfer process and make sure the new homeowner has the system information they need.
